What is the Best Social Media for your Business?

Social Media is one of the best ways to advertise your business. Not only is it free…it’s also a good way to target your audience. Social media advertising is able find your market in a wider variety of ways which means that your brand will be seen by many people using this technique.

According to Sonny Ganguly in the article “Why Social Media Advertising Is Set To Explode In The Next 3 Years”, “in 2005, no one could have predicted that social media advertising revenue would be estimated to reach $8.4 billion in 2015”. Based upon this evidence, it is clear how many social media users who own a business use this strategy to advertise their brand and identity.

The decision of which social media platform to use can be tough and if not selected correctly, it can be detrimental to your business’ reputation, publicity and your overall sales. Here at Hex, we believe that having your business on social media is something that should be seriously considered and even though the choice of which platform to use is entirely up to you…here are some reasons why some are better for you than others.

Twitter

Twitter is an enormous social media platform which can be used by absolutely everyone – from individuals to the largest multinational businesses. Twitter is one of the easiest platforms to get your business noticed on due to Retweets and Likes. If a user Retweets something, it appears on all their followers news feed. This means that from a click of a button…your brand is seen by more and more potential customers!

It is important to note that Twitter does take up a lot of time. In order to succeed on Twitter, time needs to be invested into following people, posting multiple times a day and interacting with followers. However, a clever piece of software that is very popular amongst business owners is Buffer. Buffer lets you schedule when to post in advance and stockpile content which is incredibly helpful if you are running a busy business and you do not have the time to organise when to post on Twitter. It works 24/7 which also allows you to attract to potential customers in different timezones.

LinkedIn

In-a-nutshell, LinkedIn is a social network for professionals. However, do not be afraid of the word “professional”. LinkedIn is perfect for anyone who owns a business whether this is a major company or a small, local business. It is recommended to post two to four times a week on LinkedIn which could be anything from job-postings to company decisions and can also include employer/employee research. It is key to note that people must be appropriate, professional and on-brand as this is the image you want your business to be perceived as.

Instagram

Instagram is a social media application that us made for sharing photos and videos from your computer or smartphone. Once again, Instagram can be used by all business owners but it is particularly helpful and recommended if your brand is in the sectors of lifestyle, food, fashion, personalities and luxuries. On Instagram, you can only post photos and videos which means that these need to be excellent quality and need to stay professional and focused. Hashtags (#) are also useful as your post will appear when anyone across the world searches for the hashtag that you’ve used. It is most apparent that you will succeed on Instagram if you post every day and interact with followers between this time.

YouTube

YouTube is the world’s biggest video viewing site. Visitors on YouTube watch around 6 billion hours of video every month and on average, 100 hours of video are uploaded every minute. It is more than likely that you have viewed a video on this platform before whether this be a music video, a makeup tutorial or an excellent penalty in a football game last week. In order to thrive on YouTube and gather as much recognition as possible, it is recommended that you post once or twice a week. From research, it is clear that channels (profiles) that post videos everyday get “annoying” and “clog up the newsfeed”. Your videos, much like Instagram, need to stay professional and to the point regarding what you are advertising.
